Premiership Rugby

6th July 2017

On Tuesday I was honoured to attend the Premiership Rugby Community Awards run with the All Party Rugby Union Group. Every year hundreds of people up and down the country give their time to help run and participate in Premiership Rugby initiatives such as - but not limited to - Aviva Tackling Numbers, HITZ, On The Front Foot, Rugby 4 All, Something To Chew On, Move Like A Pro, and Urban Rugby Squad.

The Premiership Rugby Parliamentary Community Awards seeks to recognise the standout achievers within those schemes.

In this photograph I stand with the inspirational former England star and Aviva Community Player of the Year Chris Pennell, Worcester, who won an award for his outstanding effort in helping local rugby based community and schools work.

Sport has such a big impact on young people. I have long been a supporter of the local rugby clubs - Chingford Rugby Club and Woodford Rugby Football Club - I was really pleased to attend and see what rugby and sport can do to help and inspire children in local communities.

This paper sets out proposals to revise the immigration system and additionally in the annexe it makes the point that more information is required to fully understand the nature of where the costs fall and benefits exist. The information on much, if not all, of this is held by the government.
The central objective should be to ensure control over the movement of people. Using a combination of work permits and a cap we would look to control access to work and rights to settlement. Free movement for EU citizens for other purposes should be preserved.
